Goals of COP27

Adding to progress made in COP26, negotiators are now collaborating to finance efforts to meet the Paris Climate Agreement in developing countries and adapting to current impacts of climate change.

Just two days ago (November 6, 2022), the 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27), began in Egypt. Over 120 world leaders as well as climate activists and members of the press and media, observer organizations and the public have gathered at the Red Sea resort Sharm el-Sheikh for a two week negotiation between countries concerning climate action. Adding to progress made in COP26, negotiators are now collaborating to finance efforts to meet the Paris Climate Agreement in developing countries and adapting to current impacts of climate change. 11 thematic days have been planned to ensure open discussion with a diverse group including indigenous people, women, youth and civil society. These days include:
November 9th - Finance Day:
Address parts of the climate finance ecosystem to support scaling up ambition.
November 10th - Science Day + Youth & Future Generations Day
Panel discussions and events to further engagement from the climate community. Second emphasis on ensuring the voice of youth is heard and reflected in the climate agenda.
November 11th - Decarbonization Day
Plans and policies to reduce our human carbon footprint.
November 12th - Adaptation & Agriculture Day
Planning to reduce devastating climate impacts across the globe and extreme weather events that have become far more frequent.
November 14th - Gender Day + Water Day
Identifying women are disportionately impacted by climate change and formulating new policies and actions according to gender perspective. Also addressing climate impacts on water and resulting impacts on development and livelihoods.
November 15th – Ace & Civil Society Day + Energy Day
Identifying civil society's role in the global effort to combat climate change as well as that of transitioning to renewable energy.
November 16th - Biodiversity Day
Discussion of the impacts of climate change on biodiversity and identifying nature and ecosystem based solutions.
November 17th - Solutions Day
Finding potential solutions to the many climate change challenges presented in the COP27 conference.
